iObject: Grand Jury Simulation
Students step into the powerful role of Grand Jury members investigating a 1930s mob murder, questioning witnesses, examining evidence, and determining if there’s sufficient proof to bring suspects to trial.
iObject Overview
A U.S. Senator’s daughter has been murdered by the mob. Now a Grand Jury must investigate the evidence and decide who to indict. The challenge? There are three possible suspects, each with opportunity, means, and motive. Your job is to determine who goes to trial. The iObject program places students on the front lines of the judicial system. Participants question witnesses, examine evidence, and learn what testimony is allowed while working to solve the case.
As a Grand Jury member, you’ll determine if prosecutors have enough evidence to charge a suspect or if they’re targeting an innocent person. The Grand Jury serves as a constitutional shield, preventing prosecutors from charging someone without sufficient evidence while ensuring the guilty are prosecuted. Throughout the simulation, students explore what it means to be an engaged citizen, America’s Judeo-Christian heritage, and standing up for what is right.
Grand Jury Defined
The grand jury “is a grand inquest, a body with powers of investigation and inquisition, the scope of whose inquiries is not to be limited narrowly by questions of propriety or forecasts of the probable result of the investigation, or by doubts whether any particular individual will be found properly subject to an accusation of crime.”
